7 Natural Remedies for Healthy Travel

7  Natural Remedies for  Healthy  Travel

Do you love travelling or are you anxious about catching bugs, accidents or becoming ill and how you will cope away from home. It is tempting to pack a case full of  ‘just in case’ medical & first aid.

Packing ‘light’ makes travelling so much easier and a little preparation before is key to healthy travelling.

As a frequent traveller, across time zones for ‘criuse speaking’, it is crucial for me to be well and able to give my best.

So, I’ll just share a few tips for healthy travel

1.Fear of flying – if you have a fear of flying that affects your ability to travel, I suggest a course of Hypnotherapy which can be used effectively to get you happily  flying.

Use  a blend of Essential oils such as ‘Organic Remedies to Roll for Travel’, available from Neal’s Yard Remedies to roll on pulse points to relieve stress & anxiety. The oils will also restore energy when fatigued or affected by jet lag.

2. Boost Immunity – travelling exposes us to lots of different bugs so I always ensure that my immune is optimum. Making sure that my diet is packed with fresh fruit & vegetables to provide vitamin C.

Adding in a probiotic  and eating fermented foods to support  a healthy microbiome before travelling  will help to fight off foreign bugs.

3. Jet Lag – travelling  across time zones will always disrupt circadian rythyms, and this is not just sleep /wake cycle – its digestion, hormones  & much more.

DON’T drink  caffeine  – however tempting it is to just have more caffeine to get you through the day –  caffeine can stay in your system for 6-8hours making it doubly difficult to go to sleep  at your new night time.

DO get out side in day light – simply sit with your 3rd eye ( that’s inbetween your eyebrows) facing the sun.

4.Travel Sickness – if travel sickness makes your journey a misery –  Sea Bands available from chemists can be worn on the wrist and are effective by exerting pressure on an acupuncture point (pericardium 6 which is found 3 finger breadths away from the wrist crease in between the two tendons).

I always take sea bands with me when  cruising

5.Insect Bites –  itchy bites which can make your holiday a misery – use natural insect repellant to reduce the risk of being bitten.

Try Natural Remedies, approved & effective natural insect repellants, such as  Lemon eucalyptus oil,  or Neem Oil  –Neem Care Insect Repellent from Bioforce.

Eat less sugar foods as insects love sweet blood so eat more bitter foods such as chicory, endive & radicchio lettuce.
Increase Vit B1, which is an insect repellent and any excess will be excreted through the skin.

This should be taken as a B complex, such as Viridian High One VitB1 with B-Complex 1 daily for 1 month before travel.

If you do happen to be bitten – apply Tea Tree Oil to alleviate inflammation & itching.

6.Stomach upsets

Scrupulous hand washing is essential in all public places – I recommend using a paper towel after washing hands to open bathroom doors.

Avoid raw uncooked food, ice in drinks, foods which may have been previously frozen, peel all fruit, drink bottled water.
Natural remedies include Grapefruit seed extract, which is a natural disinfectant with anti bacterial, antifungal and anti parasitic action.

It is available as ‘Citricidal’ liquid from Higher Nature – 4-12 drops can be taken daily by adding to water or juice. Use internally & externally.

Probiotics are essential to maintain a healthy gut – Biocare Travel Guard contains beneficial bacteria and also garlic, clove oil & oregano to soothe and heal the gut.

If stomach symptoms occur have fluids only until feeling better – add Grapefruit seed extract (Citricidal) to glass of water 3 times a day and continue probiotics to replace good gut flora.

7.Sunburn or Heat Rash

Natural sun light has so many health benefits, however sensible sun exposure is essential, – and we are all different. Know your skin and be aware of sun strength in the area in which you are travelling.

Strengthen & protect the skin from the inside before exposure and during periods of excessive sun light.
Vit C, Vit E, Zinc, Lycopene & beta carotene available as a complex formulated for travel Solarguard from Biocare.

Aloe Vera gel will soothe & heal damaged skin.

My favourite Natural Remedies for Healthy Travel
I always travel with a little bottle of  ‘space saving’ Tea Tree Oil –it’s my ‘go to’ for natural remedy for nearly everything – use topically to treat insect bites, any infections including oral problems such as gums or teeth.
